Kansas City Wedding Photography | Michael + Callie
Back in January when we did Michael and Callie’s engagement session and after visiting with Callie about the details of her wedding, I envisioned how beautiful their June wedding would be. I dreamt of the prettiest blue sky free of clouds, warm temperatures and a prince and his princess surrounded by their loved ones. Their flowers, created by Flowers by Pat would be simple and beautiful, their cake from Raspberries & Cream would be stunning and delicious. Their bridal party would be fun and smart, pretty and handsome. Well, everything I envisioned was true, when on June 2, 2012 Ms. Callie Horn became Mrs. Michael Albert. Everything about their wedding weekend was perfection, a weekend filled with love for Callie and Michael. Michael’s wonderful and gracious parents hosted the rehearsal dinner, great food, fun company and spectacular views of the city at The Petroleum Club. The girls kicked off Saturday morning with breakfast at the home of Callie’s dear friend and bridesmaid Addison. Addison and her lovely mom not only served us delicious food, but created an environment where Callie, and all the women involved in her day could spend some downtime relaxing before the craziness of the day began. After breakfast we headed to Schardein & Company to meet up with the super talented and lovely Lori Miller for hair and to Balliets for makeup. Joy Robinson and the ladies at Balliets are the best and they made Callie feel like royalty.
But, before I go on further about the spectacular day I want to share Callie and Michael’s love story that I asked Callie to write a few months back.
My fairy tale romance began in high school. We started dating on February 11, 2007; Michael was a junior, and I was a senior. For our first Valentine’s Day, Michael completely charmed me with a romantic gesture. As he opened the car door for me (what a gentleman!), I noticed a rose in my seat; Michael then explained that his father had done this for his mother on one of their first dates. I knew then that he was my Prince Charming! Because I attended the University of Oklahoma and Michael was a Duke Blue Devil, we have happily and steadily maintained a long distance relationship. I can tell you that absence truly does make the heart grow fonder! Although we had been dating for almost five years and had discussed our future together, Michael completely surprised me and swept me off my feet with his romantic proposal. On August 13, 2011, shortly before Michael was returning to Duke for his senior year, he invited me to dinner at The Mantle, a restaurant in Bricktown, a fun area in downtown Oklahoma City. During our meal, Michael told me that he had planned a special surprise, which turned out to be a carriage ride. Being the fairy tale princess wannabe that I am, I couldn’t imagine a better surprise. But…WAIT…there’s more! Our journey ended in front of the historic Skirvin Hotel where we planned to have dessert. As I entered the lobby, I was a bit bewildered when I caught a glimpse of several family members unsuccessfully trying to hide behind various pillars. Before I had time to process this situation, Michael was already down on one knee asking for my hand in marriage. My answer was a resounding, “YES!!!” And–my ring rocks–pun intended!
Now, on a hot and sunny evening in June, their fairy tale took on a new chapter with a gorgeous wedding ceremony at the beautiful St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. As the bridal party made their way into the church all eyes were eager to see the beautiful bride as she walked down the aisle on the arm of her loving father, to marry her one true love, Michael. Callie’s delightful grandmother read the biblical readings and had a front row seat to witness the look of love on her granddaughter’s face whenever she looked at Michael. Everyone present was mesmerized by Callie’s aunt Lailan who filled the church with her beautiful voice. From the moment Callie walked down the aisle to the minute that they were pronounced husband and wife all guests were spellbound by their love.
Following the gorgeous ceremony, guests headed over to the Waterford Marriott ballroom where they were treated to fantastic food, drinks and fun at one rocking reception. DJ Jeremy Miller of M&M Productions kept the dance floor rockin from the very first song to the last with great sounds from yesteryear and today. Jeremy made sure there was music for all ages and the dance floor was the place to be. After the dancing, the bouquet toss, the garter throw and the cake cutting we finally had a chance to sneak Callie and Michael off for some photos on the grounds of the Marriott. Along the way we found a quiet area with a piano. Knowing that Michael was a musician we asked him if he would play a song and he graciously sat down and not only played but also sang to his new bride. This to me was the most romantic part of the day. They were oblivious to everything and in their own world. As we finished a series of photos, I had one more thing in store for them, I had arraigned to take them to her parents hotel room where they could have a few minutes to talk and to catch up on the NBA semi-final game between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. Did I mention that they are HUGE Thunder fans? Well they are, and this few minutes gave them time to breathe and cheer on their team. Soon after we returned to the reception word spread that the Thunder won the game 109-103. When word of the victory reached Jeremy he had the reception walls rattling with the sounds of ACDC ‘s Thunderstruck. What a perfect ending to a perfect day for Callie and Michael. You see fairy tales do come true.
Callie and Michael, we simply adore you and your families. We are honored to have been a part of your beautiful day. May you be blessed with all the love and happiness that you deserve.
