A Hawthorne House wedding is always beautiful, but on this June evening it was exceptionally beautiful when Derek and Melissa surrounded by family and friends became husband and wife. We arrived early Saturday morning to the normal pre-wedding preparations and excitement filled the air. Beauty was abundant in the bridal suite and the hustle and bustle of getting ready was in full swing. Laughter followed by tears in between sips of mimosas and hair being done was the norm this fine morning. And while our lovely ladies finished with their final touches the guys found a few minutes to play some frisbee followed by a quick poker game on the veranda.
With Melissa looking absolutely GORGEOUS we were ready for first looks with her dad. As she walked down the stairs to see him the minute she laid eyes on him the last of her emotions got to her and the tears flowed, but once she was in his arms for a hug only dads can give she was all smiles from there on. Even though Melissa and Derek choose not to see each other prior to the ceremony, we wanted them to have some time alone to talk and exchange gifts. We tucked them away on the front porch far away from all the days activities where they were able to laugh and have a few minutes alone before we separated them for some fun bridal party pictures.
As ceremony time approached the last of the guests quickly found seats before Melissa made her entrance into the simple yet beautiful chapel, where Derek stood with tears in his eyes as his bride walked down the aisle on the arm of her dad. The ceremony was filled with personal touches from the ceremony being officiated by a longtime family friend of Melissa’s to the personal vows that she and Derek exchanged. The chapel was filled with an over abundance of love and a few tears. After the tears were dried and Mr. and Mrs. Seevers left the chapel to a barrage of bubbles the guests made their way to the main house for a wonderful cocktail hour while we had some time alone with our newlyweds. The beauty of the grounds accented by the evening sun paled in comparison to the beauty of Melissa and Derek. WOW!!!!!
Our evening was filled with terrific food, loving toasts, a romantic first dance followed by a party where Danny Collins with DC entertainment rocked the house. I’m not sure we’ve ever seen a reception end with encores for more great music but tonight we did. What a day!
Melissa and Derek, you two have touched our lives and we are blessed to call you friends. Over the past year between your engagement session, our coffee meetings and happy hours we have enjoyed the opportunity to get to know you as individuals and as a couple. You continue to amaze us with your thoughtfulness and kind gestures and witnessing first hand the way you make everyone around you feel extra special is a sight to behold. That my friends is a rare gift! Your wedding day was perfect and we couldn’t have worked with better wedding vendors.
